Introduction

Welcome to the Schofield Cricket Club Score System. This document aims to explain about the Schofield Cricket Club Score System and how to use it.

Getting started

The Home Page

This is the Home Page. When you start the Schofield Cricket Club Score System, you will be here.

Here is a brief description of what the buttons do:

‘I want to start a new season’

This button allows you to enter the player names, and then it sets up the Schofield Cricket Club Score System for your new season

‘I want to add some Player results’

This button takes you to the player results page, where you can choose the player and the match number and enter the scores

‘I want to change some things’

This button takes you to the options page, where you can change things such as the number of weeks in the season.

‘I want to view the batsman league table’

This button takes you to the batsman league table, so you can view the current

standings of the batsmen.

‘I want to view the bowler league table’

‘I want to quit’

This button exits the Schofield Cricket Club Score System
Starting a new season

This section will show you step-by-step how to set up a new season.

To make the configuration process easier, things that can be changed have been given a yellow highlight.

On the home sheet, click the ‘I want to start a new season’ button:

If this is the first time the Schofield Cricket Club Score System has been run, or a Master Reset has been performed, a prompt will come up asking the name of your club/Team.

Enter the name of you club/team, and press OK:

Click OK on the dialogue box. You will also notice that the name of your club has been put on the Home Page.

On the players page, enter the names of the players. In the example I will have 10 players:

After each entry, you should press either the down arrow key, or enter to move to the next box. If you wish change a previous entry, select it using the mouse or the arrow keys. When you have entered all the player names, press continue. The screen should flash a few times and then return to the Home Page.

You may also cancel and return to the homepage by clicking the ‘Go Home’ button

Next you need to set up the length of the season.

The Options Page

This is where you set the length of the Season.

To get to this page, click the ‘I want to change some things’ button on the Home Page.

What can I change

Number of Matches in the season: enter the number of matches in the season here. If you put too many matches in, a message pops up. The system currently cannot handle more than 28 matches. In the example, I am having a 10-match season.

Click the ‘Go Home’ button. Your changes are automatically saved.

Now the Schofield Cricket Club Score System is ready to use

The Player Results Page

This page is where you enter the results of the players into the Schofield Cricket Club Score System.

To get to this page, click the ‘I want to add some player results’ button on the Home Page,

Entering results

Select the match in which the results were obtained using the up/down buttons. Next select the players using the drop-down scroll boxes. Then enter the information for either or both players. When you have finished, click one of the ‘save these results’ buttons (WARNING: - any results already stored for the player(s) being saved in this match number will be overwritten, once you click the button it is too late!) You may also cancel and return to the Home Page by clicking the ‘Go Home’ button

If you are lucky, and you have a fairly slow computer, you might get to see it storing the results, otherwise, the screen will flash and the results you entered will disappear. They have been stored.

Tracking progress

This is all very nice, but what if you want to see how the players are doing? No problem. The Schofield Cricket Club Score System automatically produces two different methods for monitoring players’ performance: a variety of different batting graphs and two different league tables, one for batsmen and one for bowlers.

The league Tables

This is so you can see the current rankings of each player in the team.

To get to this page, click one of the ‘I want to view the … league table’ buttons on the Home Page.

The screen will flash, and you will be presented with a league table

The Different Graphs

The Schofield Cricket Club Score System automatically generates 7 different graphs, showing Total Runs, Run Rate, Bowling Average, Fours, Sixes, Fifties, and centuries.

To choose a graph, click the ‘I want to view some Graphs’ button on the Home Page.

A menu will appear. Click the button for the graph that you wish to view.

Performing a Master Reset

From the Home Page, click ‘I want to change some things’

On the options page, click ‘Master Reset’ WARNING: YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA IF YOU DO THIS

You will be prompted to enter the administrator password. Enter it and click ‘OK’. The default password is ‘admin’ all lowercase and no quotes.

If you get the password wrong, an error message will appear and the operation will abort.

If you get the password correct, you will be prompted for your PAN (Private Authentication Number). Enter it and press OK. The default PAN is ‘1234’ with no quotes

If you get the PAN wrong, an error message will appear and the operation will abort.

If you have second thoughts about performing a master reset, incorrectly enter either the password or the PAN, to abort the process.

If you get the PAN correct, a master reset will be performed.

Changing the Administrator Password

From the Home Page, click ‘I want to change some things’

On the options page, click ‘Change Administrator Password’

You will be prompted to enter the current password

If you get the password wrong, an error message will appear and the operation will abort.

If you get the password correct, you will be prompted to enter the new password twice. If the two are different, an error message will appear and the operation will abort.

Changing the PAN

Follow the instructions above for changing the password, but click ‘Change PAN’ on the options sheet instead of ‘Change Administrator Password’

It is highly recommended that one person knows the password, and a different person knows the PAN, and no one knows both. That way, a master reset can only be carried out if both people agree.

Troubleshooting

Program will not run

You must have Microsoft Excel 2000 or above installed and working for this program to run. It will not run in other programs, such as OpenOffice.org Calc.

Macro security warning

If you get a Macro Security Warning like the one below, you MUST click ‘Enable Macros’ otherwise this program WILL NOT WORK. It relies on macros to do a lot of it’s work, so YOU MUST ENABLE THEM.
